Code Ready: Recognizing National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month

September is known for the change of seasons, back to school and football.  It is also National Preparedness Month.  Since its inception in 2004, National Preparedness Month is the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) annual outreach to strengthen our country’s resilience to disasters.  As a healthcare company, we have a duty to make sure that our healthcare facilities are operational during a natural, technological or man-made event and that each patient, physician and our communities are prepared individually.

HCA Healthcare has a comprehensive program to assist individuals and our facilities during a disaster.  Our Code Ready program provides information on how to create personal emergency preparedness and family communications plans.  It also provides planning information for HCA Healthcare facilities experiencing a disaster.

From disaster assistance to facility status updates, the HCA Healthcare Code Ready website is a great resource for anyone interested in disaster preparedness.  You can access the website from your mobile device or home computer and browse specific sections for employees, physicians, patients, families and communities.  Each emergency planner at HCA Healthcare facilities around the country also has a password protected area on the website to share emergency preparedness resources.

Everyone should have a plan based on the vulnerabilities in your region.  From hurricanes and tornadoes to snowstorms and floods (even volcanic eruptions!), making sure you have supplies and a plan is imperative to ensure your safety and security. Visit Ready.gov for tips to help plan for, respond to and recover from a disaster.

As you settle in to your back to school routines, leaf raking and football, please take the time this month to also start, review or update your personal and family emergency preparedness plan. Be ready – HCA Healthcare cares.
