ComputerWorld recently named HCA Healthcare Information Technology and Services (IT&S) one of the “Best Places to Work in IT” for the eighth consecutive year, placing higher than any previous year. This recognition highlights the satisfaction and morale among more than 4,500 technology employees across corporate headquarters and 168 hospitals in the states and the U.K.

We’re proud to transform healthcare through technology for our caregivers, patients and families. And grateful to those who chose to use their talents, innovation and skills at HCA Healthcare to enhance the future of healthcare IT. We call that “Healthcare Inspired” – and here’s the proof.

We Serve Others

HCA Healthcare IT&S’ mantra – “Healthcare Inspired” – influences every level of the technology division and acts as a reminder of our privileged position to help improve the care of the patients we serve. Being “Healthcare Inspired” is part of the IT&S culture, serving as our guiding principle, motivating employees to bring their best every day and providing a sense of fulfillment that, through technology, patients and caregivers will have a positive experience. It’s our Healthcare Inspired culture that brings employees together in a shared enthusiasm for their work and sets HCA Healthcare IT&S apart as a uniquely purpose-driven company in the IT industry.

We Find Solutions

Our IT&S employees look for and discover technology solutions for HCA Healthcare physicians and nurses through internal programs like, IT Healthcare Connection (ITHC), an immersion experience to shadow clinicians and observe patient care, and our Pay IT Back initiative, an employee-led opportunity where volunteer teams of ITHC alumni return to hospitals to solve specific technical issues. Both of these programs have proven to be educational, transformational and, of course, Healthcare Inspired.

Our commitment to finding solutions isn’t limited to our hospital walls; it overflows into the communities we serve, too. Through HCA Healthcare’s Caring for the Community campaign, IT&S employees are empowered to use their unique skill-set to assist charitable agencies. In 2014, the HCA Healthcare technology division sponsored its first Hack for the Community event, assisting Middle Tennessee nonprofit agencies with technological resources to enhance their respective missions in the community. And our tech teams will spearhead another hack-a-thon community event in October 2016.

Diversifying technology has been an important platform for HCA Healthcare IT&S, as well. IT Girls, a community outreach program, was formed to raise girls’ awareness of career opportunities in technology. HCA Healthcare IT&S women serve as mentors for young ladies in high school to introduce them to careers in healthcare IT.

We Develop Careers

We are committed to the personal and professional development of our employees, which ultimately, leads to better technology solutions and patient care. We provide opportunities through our internal iTrain platform, a program of over 1,500 training courses; our Super Speaker series that brings industry leaders to speak with IT&S staff about good business practices and solid leadership; and IT Training Days, where vendors deliver training opportunities specifically customized for IT&S.

We also offer a range of career development programs including our Emerging Leaders program to ensure employees have the skills and guidance to maintain long, successful “Healthcare Inspired” careers in IT&S.

HCA Healthcare is honored to have received the distinction again of being named one of the “Best Places to Work in IT.” We will continue striving to be “Healthcare Inspired” and provide innovative technology that will support our caregivers, and ultimately, help save lives.
