The Super Bowl is typically the most watched sporting event in the U.S. and the second biggest eating holiday of the year behind Thanksgiving.
Tammy Baranowski, clinical nutrition manager at Orange Park Medical Center, has a few ideas that will ensure your Super Bowl party scores huge points.
‘It’s the new year and people are trying to keep their resolutions and stay healthy, so here are some great ways that you can have fun and still stick with your goals,” she said.
Baranowski, a registered dietitian, gave HCA Healthcare Today a list of healthy super bowl snack ideas below. Enjoy!
Guacamole, White Bean Hummus Dip, and/or Salsa with Fresh Cut Veggies – Set several healthy dips out to serve heart healthy fats, lots of fiber and phytonutrients. These options are filling and festive!
Mixed Nuts – Moderation is key here, but they can be spiced and roasted or just served plain in a pretty bowl. Again, heart healthy fats, protein, and fiber!
Buffalo Cauliflower– A plant based twist on everyone’s staple Buffalo wings, without all the saturated fat but still that delicious buffalo flavor!
Garlic Chili Edamame – The pods slow down the eating process, and the garlic and chili flavors mean less salt! Soy is the only plant based complete protein, containing all essential amino acids.
Shrimp Cocktail – For the omnivores, this is a low fat tasty option. A dozen medium sized shrimp are less than 100 calories!
Cowboy Caviar – A mix between a salsa, a salad, and a side dish, this is loaded with filling fiber and is low calorie and so flavorful, even kids love it! Plus almost a full day’s worth of vitamin C!
Turkey Sliders with Zucchini – Turkey is sometimes known for being dry, however, sneaking in grated zucchini makes these sliders super juicy, while increasing the nutrition and decreasing the calories per serving. Best of all, your guests will love them!
