What better way to record the legacy of HCA Healthcare and commemorate the 50th anniversary than through the stories and perspectives shared by fellow colleagues in a timeless collection of interviews entitled 50 Voices of HCA Healthcare.
Perhaps Dr. Karl VanDevender, the personal physician to founder Dr. Frist, Sr., says it best in the opening pages of the book, “What I’ve seen in my years at HCA Healthcare is that no one person is ever the whole story, and that the health of the industry is really the health of our HCA Healthcare family, everyone working together for our main purpose: the health of the patient.”

Alonzo Smith who is the Supervising Security Officer at affiliate Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., shares the twists and turns in his life that led him to Wesley, and says, “I have seen this hospital as an opportunity to make my city a better place.”
Ann Nguyen, MSN, RN, a Clinical Nurse Manager at affiliate Regional Medical Center of San Jose, talks about her work with the wound care program in her native country Vietnam. Nguyen says, “My reward comes from standing at the finish line and seeing a wound heal. Knowing I made a difference energizes me.”
Sam Hazen, President and COO, HCA Healthcare, shares how an idea from his dad led him to discover HCA Healthcare. “The most appealing things to me about HCA Healthcare were the opportunities to be around capable people and to grow personally and professionally,” says Hazen.

In 1968, HCA Healthcare was conceived by two physicians and an accomplished business leader — Dr. Thomas Frist Sr., Dr. Thomas Frist Jr., and Jack Massey.
