Celebrating our physicians this National Doctors Day

Dear Physicians,

As we celebrate National Doctors’ Day on March 30th, we express our gratitude to you. You make an incredible impact on the lives of your patients, in the communities where you practice and on the whole of medicine.

Thank you!

HCA Healthcare’s physician founders conceived of and built an organization where now more than 45,000 physicians, and your patients, can flourish. We have always believed the best patient outcomes begin with providing physicians the best facilities in which to practice. Our teams at 186 hospitals and thousands of ambulatory care sites work hard every day to earn your trust. We are committed to creating an environment where you can thrive in practice, and where patients prefer to receive care.

Your voice and leadership matters

Leadership begins with listening. As key stakeholders and partners, you are integral to HCA Healthcare’s success. To this end, in addition to hearing your voice directly, we’ve added physician leaders to ensure that the voice of the physician is well-represented in decision-making. We have Chief Medical Officers in most of our hospitals and all of our divisions to guide strategies, find and propagate best practices, and help ensure we’re all proud of the care we deliver.

Making it easier to practice medicine

We strive to make it easier for you to practice medicine with us, from staffing highly trained, competent clinical teams to providing state-of-the-art operating rooms and equipment. We are deploying Meditech Expanse, a cloud-based EHR with an intuitive mobile interface across the enterprise over the next five years. We’re testing AI-based programs to improve nurse scheduling and shift handoffs, and have partnered with Google Cloud and Augmedix to use generative AI technology to simplify physician and nurse workflow for clinical documentation.

Healers and researchers

At HCA Healthcare and alongside you, we provide more trauma, cardiac, cancer, NICU, orthopedic and stroke care, and deliver more babies and perform more organ transplants than any other health system. With that comes an obligation to study and advance medicine.

The data from our care helped our clinical teams create best practices that are shared globally, including through our Reduce MRSA, ABATE and Swap Out studies that have improved infection control worldwide. Together, we have collaborated with academic, government and industry partners like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes for Health and Harvard Pilgrim to improve healthcare broadly through research — including the research we did during COVID-19.

From our SPOT (Sepsis Prediction and Optimization of Therapy) technology to the ongoing work of the HCA Healthcare Research Institute, we are proud that your work has elevated the quality and standard of healthcare, and demonstrated that community hospitals have an important role in advancing research.

Building the future healthcare workforce

HCA Healthcare is now the largest provider of graduate medical education in the country, with 5,100 residents learning from you. You are training the next generation of physicians, and for that we are grateful. Your contributions to the HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine help to broadly share your insights on innovation, enhanced quality and new knowledge in clinical care and medical education for the benefit of all patients. Our advances in nursing education through the growth of the Galen College of Nursing position us among the leading providers of U.S. healthcare education, and a key part of the solution to industry workforce shortages.

Thanks to you and the care teams you lead, we believe our collective future is bright at HCA Healthcare. We appreciate all you do for our patients and communities.

Sincerely,
