Driven by our unwavering commitment to the care and improvement of human life, HCA Healthcare and our colleagues have a long history of supporting communities and responding to emergencies and disasters. Earlier this year, HCA Healthcare committed over $1 million in financial and in-kind donations to organizations working to provide relief in Ukraine. Amid the unfolding humanitarian crisis, HCA Healthcare colleagues across our organization stepped up to support relief efforts.
Caring for Ukraine with Project C.U.R.E.
In April, colleagues from HCA Midwest Health in Kansas City, Missouri, volunteered with Project C.U.R.E. to sort, pack and label boxes of medical supplies and equipment being shipped to Ukraine health entities and other partners. To support Project C.U.R.E. – the world’s largest distributor of donated medical equipment and supplies to resource-limited communities across the globe – HCA Healthcare provided $100,000 and a commitment of volunteer support to help pack medical kits that would be included in future shipments.
In addition to Kansas City, colleagues across our enterprise have volunteered at Project C.U.R.E. warehouses in their hometowns. In early March, the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division Young Professionals Colleague Network packed physician starter kits and made plans to return for additional volunteer work.
Colleagues from The Medical Center of Aurora in Colorado shared their gratitude “for the opportunity to care for our neighbors near and far” following their volunteer shift in Denver on April 29.
HCA Healthcare corporate colleagues in Nashville sorted and packed over $50,000 in medical supplies on April 14, including a truck’s worth of vital signs monitors donated by TriStar Centennial Medical Center. The team also helped prep several large operating room lights donated by TriStar Southern Hills that were being sent to Nigeria.
“Throughout my life, I’ve developed social and professional skills that promote my personal achievement. Using those skills for a wider, communal impact is even more fulfilling,” shared Shannon Kuczynski MSN, MHSA, RN, MidAmerica Division vice president service lines & division chief nursing informatics officer. “Our company promotes volunteering, which I find enriches my life and gives a broader purpose to HCA Healthcare’s mission.”
Delivering healthier tomorrows
Medical supplies packed by HCA Healthcare colleagues are part of large shipments trucked by Project C.U.R.E. logistics partners to U.S. airports and then flown to Poland. From there, supplies are transferred to Ukraine health facilities all over the country. As of May 2022, Project C.U.R.E. completed over 20 emergency shipments of emergency medical supplies and equipment throughout Ukraine. The organization has also sent vital equipment to the region, including a donated and refurbished ultrasound machine and emergency relief beds and mattresses.
In addition to Project C.U.R.E., HCA Healthcare’s humanitarian aid supported other organizations working to provide relief in Ukraine, including $400,000 to the American Red Cross for support of the Global Red Cross Movement efforts in and around Ukraine and in-kind contributions to local Ukraine health entities working to expedite medical supplies and equipment.
