HCA Healthcare welcomes its first babies of 2019

Hospitals across the HCA Healthcare system welcomed the first babies of 2019, celebrating the arrival of one newborn just 14 minutes into the new year.

Gracelyn Karpov was born at 12:14 a.m. at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas. The 6-pound, 9-ounce baby girl shares a unique birthday with her mother, Leslie, born on Christmas Eve and brother Mason whose birthday is on December 26.

Born at 12:45 a.m., Olivia Pankowski owns the distinction of being the first baby born in Santa Clara (Cali.) County and the third overall in the Bay Area. She was delivered at affiliate Regional Medical Center of San Jose, weighing 9-pounds even.

Mom Suemonthet Naing told the San Jose Mercury News: “This is how we imagined her coming into our lives.”

Rounding out the list of HCA Healthcare New Year’s babies is Santiago Sanchez, born at 2:24 a.m. at Sunrise Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas, and Salem Meer La Caze, entering the world at 2:58 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Sanchez weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 19 ¾ inches. He is the third child of Diana Patricia Barraza-Lopez. The baby’s father is Teodoro. The family received a stroller full of gifts including baby safety essentials, toiletries, sleep sack, blanket, clothes, bath essentials and a musical plush toy.

Women’s & Children’s hospital delivered Acadiana’s – the 22-parish region of southern Louisiana – first baby of 2019. Salem Meer La Caze weighed 5 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches long. He is new mom Megan Beck’s first child.

“I hope he gets into sports,” she said. “His father played high school football and is really into sports. But, honestly, we don’t really have any big plans for him other than for him to be happy and healthy.”
