Making Strides in Sustainability

Environmentally Conscious Healthcare Operations (ECHO) logo

As one of the leading providers of healthcare services in the nation, HCA Healthcare is committed to the care and improvement of human life. We demonstrate this commitment through service to our patients, in our communities and for one another. But what most don’t know is our interest in protecting the environment – a natural extension of our mission – through company-wide sustainability efforts.

HCA Healthcare has organized its sustainability initiatives under the Sustainability Steering Committee, chaired by Alan Yuspeh, senior vice president and chief ethics and compliance officer, where four task forces work on environmental issues with company-wide application:

  • Construction and Major Renovation – reducing construction waste and building towards LEED standards where practical;
  • Energy and Water – decreasing the overall energy and water use at facilities;
  • Waste Stream – finding recycling and waste disposal solutions throughout the HCA Healthcare system, and,
  • Environmentally Preferable Purchasing – looking for goods and services with low environmental impact.

Those are just a few of the many ways HCA Healthcare – and all its facilities – are working to become more environmentally friendly for our employees, patients and the communities we serve.

Watch the video below to see how we are practicing environmental sustainability, and ultimately, creating true healing environments.
