HCA Healthcare Innovators Award

HCA Healthcare Innovators Award

Great advancements begin with a single question: What if? It’s a question that led to the creation of HCA Healthcare itself 50 years ago and has been one that the company has encouraged employees to ask ever since.

HCA Healthcare colleagues submit hundreds of ideas for advancing health and patient care every year and all are reviewed and considered. Many are implemented.

The HCA Healthcare Innovators Award was created in 2010 to recognize the company’s innovative thinkers. The award itself, the crystal “Tommy,” is designed in tribute to HCA Healthcare co-founder Dr. Thomas Frist, Jr.

“Innovation inside of HCA Healthcare is a key component of what differentiates our company,” says Sam Hazen, president and chief operating officer. “Across the company, our employees are constantly finding ways to solve problems or improve things. These innovations help us improve patient satisfaction, deliver higher quality outcomes, improve our nursing operations, engage our physicians and generate growth.”

National awards go to recipients in three categories:

Service Excellence: Awarded for workable solutions that enhance the experience of patients, physicians or employees; promote efficiency, improve patient satisfaction and/or support diversity initiatives.

Quality and Patient Safety: Awarded for workable solutions that improve the use of clinical resources; automate a manual process and/or reduce employee health issues.

Financial Impact: Awarded for workable solutions that result in measurable expense reduction; enhanced patient care management and/or increased patient volume. HCA Healthcare Innovators Award recipients receive a $10,000 gift.
