IBM Watson Health publishes the esteemed lists annually, identifying excellence in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, financial health and patient experience. The lists were established to help identify top performance benchmarks that may help other healthcare organizations achieve consistent, balanced and sustainable high performance.

“It’s a great honor for our top-performing hospitals to be acknowledged for their unyielding dedication to innovation and high-value, patient-centered care,” said Dr. Jonathan Perlin, president of clinical operations and chief medical officer at HCA Healthcare.

“The commitment of our clinicians, caregivers and all colleagues to drive best practices toward the delivery of safe, effective care has been amplified throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and we will continue to evolve to meet challenges and realize opportunities during this global crisis and beyond,” Perlin adds.

The 17 HCA Healthcare hospitals on the 100 Top Hospitals list were selected after a thorough assessment of 3,134 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals in the United States. Compared with peer hospitals, the top 100 Top Hospitals had better survival rates, fewer patient complications, shorter lengths of stay and lower inpatient expenses.

“Year after year our hospitals show extraordinary leadership on IBM Watson Health’s 100 Top Hospitals list,” Jane Englebright, senior vice president and chief nurse executive at HCA Healthcare. “While this year has brought unique challenges, our care facilities have met those challenges admirably and with great resilience, finding new ways to provide safe, great care and support our patients and communities during COVID-19. During this pandemic, HCA Healthcare’s committed physicians, nurses and colleagues have stretched themselves not only to see the path forward – but to create the path forward.”

“To be recognized as the best large health system in the nation is a testament to the dedication and efforts of our hospital teams,” said Sylvia Young, president and chief executive officer of HCA Healthcare’s Continental Division.“Each of our hospitals’ first priority is providing a safe, high-quality patient experience. We hire top talent who have strong clinical and operational acumen and a passion for creating a memorable patient experience,” adds Young. “This starts at the top with hospital leadership supporting colleagues who are at the bedside providing direct patient care, as well as colleagues in all areas of support services, who all have a relentless drive to fulfill our mission statement that ‘Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.’”
