Did you know that more people will be diagnosed with skin cancer this year than breast, prostate, lung and colon cancer combined? When it comes to skin cancer, the more you know that better protected you can be. Summer, with all of its outdoor activities, is a great time to learn more about this all-too-common and often preventable form of cancer.

Skin cancer can be caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is especially prevalent in the summer months when the sun’s rays are strongest. Overexposure to the sun’s UV radiation can not only cause skin cancer but also premature aging of the skin, eye damage and immune system suppression.

During the summer months, take extra precautions to protect your skin from too much UV exposure. Learn more about skin cancer from our experts at Sarah Cannon, HCA Healthcare’s global cancer institute, with their participation in observances like, “Don’t Fry Day,” and their guidance on steps you can take to protect your body here.
