HCA Healthcare colleagues help each other through the Hope Fund
At HCA Healthcare, our top priority is to take excellent care of our patients. But we also take care of each other when life throws the unexpected our way. The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund – an employee-run 501(c)(3) charity – provides an avenue to give to our colleagues in times of need.
Every day more than a dozen of our fellow co-workers turn to the fund to find hope after an illness, injury, disaster, or even the death of a loved one has shaken their world. The Hope Fund stood ready to help immediately after the unusually active hurricane season in 2017 and the most recent storm that swept through North and South Carolina, Hurricane Florence.
Thanks to the incredible support of HCA Healthcare employees all across the country, the fund is able to provide the help our colleagues need. Last year was a record-breaking year with a total of 6,686 families receiving hope in times of uncertainty. That’s more families helped through the Hope Fund than in any other year since the fund began in 2005.
HCA Healthcare recently celebrated the company’s independent charity and all that has been accomplished through the care and compassion of our colleagues during its annual Hope Fund Week. The celebration featured Hope Fund related-activities at affiliated hospitals, as well as the eighth annual Hope Fund golf tournament held in Nashville, which raised $270,000 to support HCA Healthcare employees in need.
To date, HCA Healthcare colleagues have gifted $44 million to fund more than 30,000 requests for hope.

HCA Healthcare 50th Anniversary
In 1968, HCA Healthcare was conceived by two physicians and an accomplished business leader — Dr. Thomas Frist Sr., Dr. Thomas Frist Jr., and Jack Massey. This year, HCA Healthcare celebrates its golden anniversary and the culture of caring established by our three founders 50 years ago. To help us celebrate our 50th year, we’ll share stories here that reflect HCA Healthcare’s mission – above all else, the care and improvement of human life – and our pledge to improve life and make history for the next 50 years and beyond.
