HCA Healthcare’s Unit of Distinction Ceremony held on February 24, 2020 recognized nursing teams that display exemplary performance.

Nursing is the cornerstone of patient care and the differentiator for HCA Healthcare. Our nurses are on the front line to give voice and advocate for the needs of our patients. And, today, we were honored to recognize nursing units who are raising the bar for the nursing profession at the 5th Annual HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction Award Ceremony.

Launched in 2015, the HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction program celebrates the individual departments that are defining nursing excellence through nursing specific indicators and departmental performance. These teams and leaders are actively partnering and collaborating with patient care teams to problem solve and create best practices within their local organizations.

“These awards help to unite our nursing community, all of us, toward a common goal of creating a patient-centered culture and keeping our commitment to the care and improvement of human life,” said Jane Englebright, HCA Healthcare’s senior vice president and chief nurse executive.

As part of the 5th Annual HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction ceremony that was broadcast live across HCA Healthcare, 206 nursing units were recognized.

“Over the past five years, our Unit of Distinction program has grown to include more specialties, and now recognizes even more of the top-performing nursing units within HCA Healthcare,” said Sammie Mosier, vice president and assistant chief nurse executive at HCA Healthcare. “We recognize the top 5% as Unit of Distinction and the top 6 – 10% as honorable mention. In 2019, we added two new specialties: Behavioral Health and Women’s and Children’s Services, which is broken out into NICU and Perinatal specialties.”

RAISING THE BAR FOR PATIENT CARE

This year, we are honored to recognize the following categories of nursing practice:

  1. Medical-surgical nursing
  2. Critical care nursing, both intensive care and progressive care
  3. Emergency services
  4. Free Standing Emergency Room
  5. Surgical services
  6. Neonatal intensive care
  7. Perinatal services
  8. Behavioral health

Congratulations to all of our nursing colleagues across HCA Healthcare who continuously strive to deliver the highest caliber of care to patients and their families!
